My wife and I rarely go to Reading Terminal, but when we do, we always go to Shanghai Gourmet. Just incredibly well-executed Chinese food, especially their fried chicken dishes (general tso/sesame) which are a level above your typical local Chinese restaurant, both in texture and flavor.

During one of our weekend trip to Philadelphia we discovered Shanghai Gourmet inside the Reading terminal market. Because it’s inside the market so it can get a bit crowded and loud. The first day we ordered a general tsao chicken and a shrimp fried rice, after we discovered it was surprisingly delicious We went back the second day, and ordered more fried rice, dumplings, and noodle soups, and a beef, broccoli, . Everything was delicious and tasted authentic. Price per order was not as cheap as I expected, but for us to be able to locate restaurant quality dishes inside the Reading market it was worth it. Definitely recommend @WineDinenVacy

There are many food places inside the Reading Terminal Market. We decided on Shanghai Gourmet for Chinese food. We had sesame chicken and General Tso’s chicken and it was made to order, served hot and delicious. Portions were more than generous. Looking forward to a return trip to try more food from their extensive menu. Pleasant service.

Today was my first time trying this place out. I couldn't decide what I wanted to eat from Reading Terminal Market and then noticed them. The guy that took my order was very friendly. My order also came out after only just a few minutes. It was soooo good!! The veggie lo mein definitely exceeded my expectations and it was great for the price also!

I have had their dumpling soup in the past and just had to came back for some vegetable and shrimp dumplings. The soup is clear and flavorful, veggies are fresh and crunchy, and the dumplings are phenomenal. For the shrimp ones, you can taste the ginger, spices and many flavors going into every bite. Fast service, nice staff and great food. Ask for some chili oil!

I got pepper steak & onion. It cost me $12.75. It was done cooking in about 5 minutes or less. Service was ok. I ordered very quickly & didn’t have to wait in any line or anything. The food was actually soooo good! I would definitely buy it again. The reason for 4 stars is because it was only a small amount of food for the price I paid. I can definitely go to a hood Chinese store & get more bang for my buck!

Good selection for lunch. You get a lot more for your money here. My favorite is the Shanghai Shrimp, spicy shrimp over rice with vegetables. Lunch is always busy which tells you a lot about this place. Try to get here just before lunch. If there is an event at the Convention Center, just get your door to go.
